TREK BRIEFING

HimEX prepares a briefing programme before proceed to trekking from Lukla. After a scenic flight to the Solu Khumbu town of Lukla, the trek to Everest Base Camp begins. Through mountain villages, along the whitewaters of the Bhote- and the Dudh Kosi rivers we reach Namche Bazaar, Khumbu’s Sherpa capital at 3446m/11,305ft. Beyond Namche Bazaar high Himalayan Mountain peaks and Buddhist Monasteries present themselves in their unique and solitary grandeur. The ascent of Kala Patthar (5545m/18,192ft) finally will not only give you the nearness of giants peaks like Nuptse, Everest and Lhotse, moreover this will be another good opportunity to monitor the runner’s condition in preparation of the Marathon.

Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon is unique in many ways and has many special features:

  • Highest Marathon in the world-Starting line is 5356m.

  • Begins from Expedition Base Camp right below the Khumbu Icefall-at the backdrop of Everest, Lhotse and Lola Pass.

  • Marathon runs through moraine which is around five to seven kilometres.

  • This marathon passes through the traditional route to Everest pioneered by Late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary while climbing Everest in 1953.

  • It passes through the highest elevation in the world through monasteries, monuments, chortens, suspension bridges and all sorts of beautiful landscape which are nowhere in the world. It also passes through world renowned Tengboche monastery.

  • Meandering through the rhododendron forest, wild orchid grove and most scenic landscape in the world inhabited by famous Sherpa climbers.

To acclimatise to the high altitude all runners are requested to be in Nepal on May 14, for a program of hiking around the Kathmandu Valley and for the 15 day trek to the Everest Base Camp. The ascent of Kala Patthar (5545m/18,192ft) an Everest viewpoint, will conclude the preparations for the run.

The course is basically downhill with two steep uphill sections. This marathon covers rough mountain trails, with perhaps some snow and ice on the highest part. Experience of uneven terrain as well as thorough medical monitoring are essential. The exposure, the altitude and the Himalayan climate combine within this run is the ultimate challenge for the passionate runner.
