This event is open to all athletes, extreme sports lovers and  high altitude enthusiasts regardless of caste, creed, country or religion. Friends and family of people taking part in the race can also participate as a non-competitor.

Qualifications/Requirements to Compete:
Participants must be physically fit and mentally sound. A medical certificate from a doctor is necessary, stating that the participant
are healthy, free of injury and therefore fit to take part in such high altitude marathon event. Health certificates should be faxed or mailed with your entry form. See sign up procedure. This event is open to all athletes regardless of caste, creed, country or religion. Friends and family of people taking part in the race can also participate as non-competitors.

 

Qualifications/Requirements For Non-Competitors:

Non-competitors should be in good health and physically fit. They may also wish to consult with their doctors before signing up for this trip, since the event takes place in high elevation 12,000ft.

Marathon Description:
Marathon starts from Potala Palace Square of His Holy Highness Dalai Lama situated in the heart of Lhasa City of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The running route Criss Crosses Lhasa City passing by Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple & places of high interest in Lhasa, ending at the Horse Race Stadium covering a distance of 22 kms in total. This marks the standard half distance Marathon of the Olympic Standard 42 kms 195 m. Since this is a high altitude location which is also known as a Roof of the World, 22 kms of the Marathon will be just about right in light of health & high altitude difficulties.

Flight Arrangements (VERY IMPORTANT):
Before you do anything, make sure you can get a flight into Nepal for the trip dates. You will need to arrive Kathmandu on or before September 20, and depart for home on or after, October 3rd. If you need extra nights in Kathmandu because of flight schedules, we can arrange them for you. This cost would be extra and is $30 per night (double occupancy). You are free to make your own hotel arrangements for the extra nights you need if you wish.

Arrivals and Departures:
Everyone will be met at the airport in Kathmandu and taken to Hotel Shanker. Please fax your flight itinerary to our office in Kathmandu. Make sure to print your name in bold letters on the flight itinerary.

Nepal Visa:
This can be purchased upon arrival to Kathmandu. The cost is $30 USD (exact change), one passport photo and visa application form, which will be given to you before landing. You may obtain it from Nepalese Embassy based in your country. As per present rule, if you are staying less than 3 days in your each visit, you can obtain free visa without any cost. Please make sure that you inform the immigration officer of this if you are staying less than 3 days in each visit. However if you plan to spend more than 3 days in each visit, it is advisable that you obtain Multiple Entry Visa.

Tibet Visa:
We will obtain Tibet Visa for you after your arrival in Kathmandu. You will need to fax us a copy of your passport detail together with booking form, so that we can do the needful paper work to get the visa approval from Tibet on time. Cost of Tibet Visa fee is already included in your package.

Important Passport information:
Your passport should be good for 6 months after the date you plan to exit Nepal and have at least 4 empty pages. 

Departure Day for Home or to next destination:
Today is departure day so get ready for the airport. You may spend your free time for buying souvenir for your families and friends. Room should be checked by 12:00. Your luggages can be kept in the luggage room if the departure time is late afternoon. Your ground handling Officer will be constantly in touch with you. He will tell you the time for departure for Airport.

Please check your passport, Airline ticket and keep Rupees 1695 local currency for departure tax. Also inform your Ground Handling Officer about the number of baggages you have for check in.

 
Itinerary For Competitors & Non Competitors:

Option I: Lhasa Marathon Package with Flying in / out of Lhasa option
(Thursday – Wednesday)

 

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu. Meet & transfer to Hotel. O/N Hotel Shanker
Day 02: Half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley. Obtain Tibet Visa.
Afternoon: Trip Briefing.
Day 03: Fly Kathmandu / Lhasa. Transfer to Hotel. Rest of the day free for acclimatization. O/N Hotel.
Day 04: Sightseeing tour of Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery and Barkhor Market area. O/N Hotel.
Day 05: Sightseeing tour of Drepung Monastery and Potala Palace. O/N Hotel.
Day 06: Sightseeing tour of Norbulinkha Palace, Tibetan Museum and Tibetan Medical Center. O/N Hotel.
Day 07: Rest day in Lhasa, preparation for Marathon. O/N Hotel.
Day 08: Marathon Day. Evening Party with Cultural Program. O/N Hotel.
Day 09: Drive to Tsedang. Afternoon sightseeing tour. O/N Hotel.
Day 10: Drive to Shigatse. Afternoon visit Tashilungpo Monastery and the local Market. O/N Hotel.
Day 11: Drive to Lhasa via Gyantse. O/N Hotel.
Day 12: Free day in Lhasa for shopping & other independent activities. O/N Hotel.
Day 13: Fly Lhasa / Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel. O/N Hotel.
Day 14: Transfer to airport for departure.
