Weight Limit:

Each person on the trip is restricted to a 30lbs baggage which includes your sleeping bags, so pack wisely. If you really need to bring more than 30 lbs you are responsible for any over weight charges ( currently US$ 1 per kg) on Domestic along with portage staff.

We suggest that the trekkers should bring following items or trekking gears for their personal use depending upon the grade and duration of the trek .

Sun Hat, Woolen Beni, Down Jacket, Sleeping Bags , Sun Glass, Sun screen cream, good pair of trekking boots, Runners or sand shoes, rucksack as day pack, kit or duffel bags with padlocks to be carried by porters, gloves, scarf's, plastic garbage bags to keep things dry, torch, personal medical kit, at least 6 pairs of woolen socks to be used during the trek , 4 pairs of normal socks, fleece, wind or rain jacket, water bottle, stamina or rehydration powder, Thermal underwear and vest. Ski poles (optional) for walking.

Weather:

Most of the days during May, the weather will be fine and pleasant with temperature of 10 - 20 degree Celsius and in the morning & night time the temperature might drop to - 5 to - 10 degree depending upon the altitude and the wind chill factor.

What to Carry during the trek:

For a Day Pack, necessary things to carry are Camera, Water Bottle, Reading Materials, Towel and Toiletries. Beside this, warm & rain gear should be carried in your day pack. Other trekking accessories will be carried by porters.

We will provide you a FREE Kit / Duffel bag upon arrival at Kathmandu to pack your necessary clothing and trekking accessories for the trip.

You may leave a Handbag that will contain enough cloth to change on the 29th May evening as your main luggage will only arrive late in the evening. You can leave the bag at our Namche Bazaar Race Office which can be collected at Namche Bazaar.

Medical kits for the trek:

Our Sherpa Guide or leader will carry a complete medical kit. However, you should carry personal medication as prescribed by your doctor. General medication needed are - Asprin, Para-Cetamol, Brufen, Anti-diarrhea pills, metronidozole (Fasign) to cure bugs, Anti Acid Tabs and Antiseptic Creams, Band Aids and some Cotton Wool & Bandages including Elastic Bandage. But consult your Sherpa team leader before taking any pills during the trek. Do not take sleeping Pills while trekking as it is dangerous to use on high altitudes. Clients are recommended to go thorough medical check up prior to their trek departure.

Cosmetics helpful during the trek:

Chap Sticks, Vaseline, Sun Screen, Mouth Wash, Cold or Wind Cream (depending upon the area of trekking ).

Toiletries for the trip:

Shaving Kits for men, Tissue Paper, Sanitary napkin for females if required. Apart from this we will also provide toilet rolls on the trek while camping.

What to expect in the trip:

The region that you will be trekking in is one of the most popular area for the walking journey and expeditions, so you might come across many other trekkers and mountaineers with Tea Houses and villages every hour or so with constant views of the snow capped peaks. After Namche and Thyangboche the area will be barren with few vegetation like Juniper, Alpine shrubs & bushes as Everest area happens to be inside the Sagarmatha National Park, so there are chances of seeing some wildlife like Impeyan Pheasants (Danfe), Musk Deer and other Mountain Antholopes enroute.

Customs you will find during your trek:

As you trek along you will encounter Sherpa villages with their rich culture and religion most of the way specially in Namche and Thyangboche. On the trail, you will come across some religious shrines and prayer walls or Mane where one has to walk clockwise as it is the custom of Tibetan Buddhism.

Drinking Water for the trek:

While on trek , we make sure that the clients get clean bacteria free water everyday as on the trek the water will be boiled and cooled for the Group member to drink and to rinse their mouth. Iodine can be used but it only kills the taste of the water. Purify tabs only works 40 - 50% in the Himalayan Water as it has strong mineral contents. So the best to drink while on the trek is boiled water.

Food on Trek:

Food can vary from different camp and places according to its availability during the season and the Saturday market as well. Normally, the food menu that you will find during your trip has Nepali Dal Bhat (rice & lintel soup) with mild vegetable curry, fried rice, noodles, soups of great variation. In some places, Steaks, Continental foods like Hash Brown Potato, Breads, Pan Cakes, Boiled Vegetables, Stew, Pizza, Cinnamon rolls, cakes and pies etc. But, as you go higher the food menu is very limited due to the harsh cold weather and the altitude .

Currency for the trip:

At present, 1 US $ = Rs. 68. Nepali Rupees denominations bills of Rs. 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100, 500 & 1000 are available. 100 paisa makes a rupee like dollars and cents. Coins are very seldom used. On trek try to carry bills of smaller denominations.

Common phrases that can be used during the trek:

Namaste - Hello, a formal greeting, Dhanyabad - Thank you, Kasto Chha - how are you, Uukalo - uphill, Owarolo - down hill. In Nepal and during treks , the local people address each other by saying Brother or sister - Bhai for younger brother and Dai for elder brother, Bahini for younger sister and Didi for elder sister.

Note:

01. Everyone should remember that clothing can be washed out on rest days or in the evening.
02. The only items you'll take on the actual adventures or the trek should be on this list. Your travel and street clothes will be left behind at originating hotel, locked in a secure claim check, until your return from the trek . If your trip doesn't return to originating city everything will go with you.
