In 2011, at 23, I was the youngest foreigner in the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon, and the first ever participant to run the race carrying a yak skull! I have such great memories of our group on the trek up - nine members deciding to wear an obscure item for the entire duration of the trip and some for race day as well - everything from the yak skull to a cowbell. Through bumpy flights, sickness, altitude symptoms, falling yaks, cold tents and annoying early risers we stayed strong together. We shared some great laughs and some tough riddles and I have left the trip with many fantastic friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much to the organising committee, the Sherpas and porters, Damche, and particularly Kamal for leading our group. We were lucky to come across Kamal in the final kilometre and it made me smile to cross the line with him after he had led our group for the ten days. Sometimes it's not about winning, but giving it a go. This was my first trip to the beautiful Himalayas, and my first marathon - what an amazing experience!

I was with the 2011 group of runners who challenged the Mt. Everest marathon this past May, and I wanted to say a few things about what it felt like to run so high in the Himalayas. To me the adventure was never the race itself but the journey to the Base Camp. The people I lived and trekked with for 3 weeks were among some of the most inspirational, kind, fierce, funny loving people I have ever known. They were an amazing lot, from all over the world and we all got to share the experience of a lifetime, how lucky is that? The Sherpas, the guides all going above and beyond for a group of people they never met. The race, the pictures, the mountains are wondrous but it is the people that I met that I will forever carry in my heart. It remains one of the proudest moments of my life. This Marathon unlike any other in that the journey to the start line is the true adventure. Dedicated with love to all those who finished Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon-2011!

It was without exception the most physically and emotionally challenging event I have participated in. The trek up and the race down brought me to tears both of joy and pain. It required much determination and zeal throughout the course. I want to encourage other athletes to come to Nepal and experience the country first hand.

The Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon is a trail runner's dream come true! It doesn't get more exotic than this. It seems impossible to complete a marathon on a course that takes more than a week's trek to reach it. Yet, the competent and friendly race organizers pull it off with style. Their high-altitude cooking powers your body and their encouragement propels your soul. Combine that with views of the world's highest mountains and you will be inspired to run the race of a lifetime!

If you like trekking and running, you must do Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon. You won't ever regret it. It will be a nirvana for your eyes but a real hell for your legs. Enjoy ten days walking to the start line in impressive scenery with friendly people and enjoy the atmosphere of the highest marathon of the world. After I run this marathon I can say that I have Khumbu valley, Sherpa people and Nepal inside my heart.

I have competed in Marathons all over the world but the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon was more than a marathon, it was an adventure, an expedition and an opportunity to take part in one of the World's most amazing sporting events. The trip was very well organised and the race itself was one of the most challenging and incredible experiences of my life and one that I don't think will be repeated.

If you have the inclination I would highly recommend this fantastic event! It was one of the best experiences of my life, with the added bonus of meeting such an amazing group of people.
The view of Mount Everest and the magnificent Himalayas from the top of Kala Patthar, to the incredibly friendly Sherpas and the Teng Boche Buddhist Monastery; it all brings back so many wonderful memories. I am sure I will go back and run it again one day soon!
